Transformation on the International Staff Officers’ Course

The transformation of the International Staff Officers‘ Course (ISOC) is being finalized at the International Courses Department (ICD) in cooperation with the Department of Tactics and Operational Arts.

The reason for this transformation is the adaptation of the International Staff Officers’ Course to recently agreed NATO standards.

The main document underpinning the new structure of the course is NATO publication: TACTICAL PLANNING FOR LAND FORCES APP-28, issued in November 2019.

After the cancelation of the ISOC 22 in March this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, subject matter experts have begun to implement these extensive changes to the course documentation and syllabi, in order to prepare new graduates in accordance with current NATO standards at tactical level planning.

The result of this transformation will be implemented in the ISOC 23 course, which will start on 21 September 2020, according to the newly developed documentation.

Execution of this course will bring considerable credit not only for ICD, but also for the Armed Forces Academy of general Milan Rastislav Štefánik. The newly transformed course based on the tactical level planning will be unique among all of the Partner Training and Educational Centers (PTEC) NATO.
